07:42 pm - Snow day
So today J's school was canceled so that meant that I would not venture out of the house for Gymnastics for Mary Lynn or the gym. Don't worry I will go in the afternoon to the gym tomorrow and I have a morning training session on Friday. Besides, I shoveled for an hour and a half, that should count as cardio and chest.

Mommy already called to let the kiddies and daddy know that they are loved. She is due back tomorrow around 9pm. I am not so worried about the flight, but the driving will be terrible, and she said her windshield washers were not working and I just had given her a few cups of fluid to get her to the airport. I told her to call me if she needs me to pick her up and she TOTALLY SHOULD!!!!

After shoveling I started cooking soups/stews. I made a double batch of chili, Hearty Turkey Soup (with huge chunks of zucchini that end up tasting like meat because of the broth), and cheddar potato soup. I was also going to make Taco twist soup, but I ran out of steam. All the soups are currently outside in the FREEzer. Haa Haa, I just made that up. gosh I am too funny.

I was telling J tonight during the bedtime story that school might be canceled tomorrow and that he could help me make soup and chili. He excitedly asked, "OH! Can we go buy kiney...um kitty...KIDNEY beans?"

08:58 pm - The quiet snow.
I wrote on FB in my status update....The snow is quiet and resents no one.

I really love winter. Fall is my favorite, but Winter is a close second. But really I love all the four seasons, because there is always change in nature. It makes me feel happy and alive to see new things. People complain about the snow, the cold, the roads on FB and LJ. That's fine I guess. People always complain to me in person...I guess it is the thing to do in line or while dropping off your kids at school. "Sheesh! is it still snowing?! I hate the snow."

I always respond I love it, it could be worse, freezing rain...wintry mix. Those are the true scary words. And if you plan well enough in advance and can stay off the roads, well then you can see a crystalline world shimmering with sunlight the next day.

I love the cold and how you can see your breath. Sometimes when it is really cold and still your breath can hang in the air for minutes on end. I love how the snow crunches under your feet. I love the soft snow that billows up like a downy comforter making the rolling hills seem comfortable.

I love how the wet snow can be packed into tight balls for throwing. Or rolled larger for making snow men. I love how the wind can whip around the trees and knock huge fluffs of marshmallow white down onto the ground below. I love sitting up in my son's room on his overstuffed chair watching giant flakes drift down onto the already white canvass. The wind howls and pushes them around but they still make it.

I love feeling the cold on my neck and wet socks and the shivering and then cuddling up under the blankets. you can't cuddle under blankets in the summer. Sometimes you can in the Fall, but it is BETTER in the winter.

There are things I don't like about the winter. Sometimes they take too long to plow my street. I don't thoroughly enjoy shoveling unless Jeffrey is "helping" me. I haaaate it when I clear spot for my wife or myself...shoveling the street all around the car in a spot that she parks in EVERY day and someone "steals" it. I am too lazy to put up a lawn chair to stake my claim.

12:03 pm - The obligatory soul searching
So it's New Year's morning, and my last day in Athens. Heady, heady stuff.
A look at what I'll miss of Greece: The islands - those I've been to and loved, such as Milos, Paros, Delos & Hydra. Those I've not been to and so must return to Greece, such as Xios, Lesvos, Rhodes & Limnos (yes, you have a favorite that is unlisted here...write your own list, there are dozens of islands to choose from). You know me, this wanders on and on. Read it if you dare. )

09:22 am - entertaining themselves
Yesterday I decided to extend a trip to Costco to include lunch with Mommy. Normally yoda just plays a movie to subdue the kids. Today I vetoed and just opted for silence.

I'm thinking of a funny.....now )
